Website for hosting playlists - Musicmobs

Announcements
redline

If anyone is interested, we have launched a new website which hosts your playlists and connects you to other users based on your music interests (from the iTunes song data). We are now looking for people to join as beta testers.

The URL is Generic pharmacy online net

It's absolutely free and anonymous and all you have to do is upload an iTunes playlist XML file, which of course can be a smart playlist. We're looking for suggestions and comments on how to make it better.

For example: Right now you can click on an artist in your list and Musicmobs will return other users who also have songs by that artist. You could then click on that user and see what else they have. The information is sorted in a few different ways including: artist play count, song play count, and user rating (the 1-5 stars rating).

Please let me know what you think! I really appreciate any feedback.

Regards,
Bryan

This is really cool. It would be great if there was an easier way to upload the xml files. Maybe a small app or mac applescript?

At the very least- I'd suggest better instructions on where to find the xml file.

Thanks for the suggestions. A small app to upload the XML file is definitely being considered. Better instructions would be a good intermediate fix. Maybe something with pictures showing how to find it?

Sounds good.

How long does it take for the featured album selection and favorite users to be added to your profile?

Beau,

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I think you're asking how long it takes to make the change after you choose a featured album or favorite user, in which case the answer is: normally not long at all, a matter of seconds. If you're having trouble getting those features to update, please email Toby (the developer) at his email address on the website, or maybe post any error messages you see here and I could forward them on to him.

But if your question meant "how long does it take for a featured album or favorite user to automatically appear?" then the answer is: you have to choose an album by clicking on the "make mine" link below an image of an album in the Amazon search results section. To add a favorite user, you click on the "add so-and-so to your favorites" link on that user's page.

Hope that helps. If not, please let me know.

Thanks,
Bryan

Gotcha.

Featured album: I retried it in IE and it worked. Had been attempting to do it in Opera (in Windows 2k) -- no error, just no change. I'm assuming it's working in Safari, but I'll give it a shot there too when I get home.

Add favorite user: I messed with the command url to make sure that it referenced my userID and got it to work. As it stands, the command looks like it's adding the favorite user to the favorite itself (e.g., The generic term for lasix a diuretic is)?

This is way cool. A nice concept that's easy to use with the iTunes export function. Great work and thank you!

Merq, glad you like it. Tell everyone you know..we want this to get big :)

Beau, I'm not sure how the command works or is supposed to work, but I'll pass it on to Toby...

Thanks,
Bryan

Yeah, the "add favorite" command worked fine as is in Safari, so maybe it's just a Windows thing.

There are some cool ideas in mind that Toby hopes on adding in the next few months, so please be sure to send him comments and suggestions at the email address listed at Musicmobs.

Thanks to Smartplaylists.com, several new users have joined in the past week. We appreciate it, and hope Musicmobs can become a better way to find new music for everyone.

Thanks again,
Bryan

FYI..

Toby added an "alpha" update to the site allowing users to post messages to other users.
